Water Safety

Because swim activity increases across the Country during the month of May, National Water Safety Month is observed annually in May to raise awareness about the importance of water safety, swim safety and drowning prevention. The month is coordinated by several organizations, including the American Red Cross and the National Parks and Recreation Association. Here are some helpful water safety tips:
1. Learn to swim and teach children to swim.
2. Supervise children in or near water. NEVER leave them unattended.
3. Stop - Look - Listen for potential dangers around the water.
4. Ensure pool compliance, including compliant drain covers.
5. Install safety barriers, covers and alarms.
6. Get certified to perform CPR in an emergency.
7. Use life vests and pool floaties for kids. Keep flotation devices handy.
8. Always call 9-1-1 in an emergency!
