Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

A fire district ambulance, marked with the "River Valley Fire District" insignia, ready for emergency response.

Avra Valley Fire personnel are certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's), with several personnel holding advanced level Paramedic certifications.    Our District has 4 frontline advanced life support ambulances in service 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.  These ambulances are staffed with a Paramedic and one or two EMT's.  In addition to our 4 frontline ambulances, we have several reserve ambulances in our fleet, enabling the District to repond to all calls with professional care and compassion.   Ambulance service is a substantial part of the overall services which we provide to our residents.  A large majority of our annual call volume consists of medical emergencies requiring transport to a hospital for further care.

Ongoing EMS continuing education classes are required for all our first-responders to maintain their certifications.  Paramedics must complete 48-60 hours of continuing education, while EMT's  must complete 24-40 hours every 2 years.  Additionally, Paramedics must complete refreshers on specialized training, including Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.  The Avra Valley Fire District supports its members in meeting these requirements by providing numerous training opportunities each year, including in-person skills labs and other internal classes, organized and taught by our EMS coordinators and base hospital staff.
